There are over 2500 species of flea.
Human fleas are by far the best to train for a flea circus. However,
they are quite hard to find these days.
There is a flea in a Kiev museum that wears horseshoes made of
real gold. Dead fleas dressed as wedding couples were popular
collectors' items in the 1920s.
A flea can pull up to 160,000 times its own weight. If a man
had the same relative strength as a flea, he could jump over
St Paul's Cathedral in London, England.
A flea can jump over 150 times its own size and can jump 30,000
times without a break. Fleas alternate the direction of their
jumps. When jumping, the flea accelerates 50 times faster than
the space shuttle. Fleas are attracted by carbon dioxide.
An adult flea has a maximum life span
of about 1.5 years but on average they only live 2-3 months. |
